Thomas Wright Blakiston (1832-1891) was born on December 27, 1832, in Lymington, Hampshire, England. Blakiston was appointed magnetic observer to the Palliser Expedition in 1857. Daily, he would carry out magnetic and meteorological observations. He recorded 129 species of birds, taking specimens of 100 of them.
